“SMILIN’ THROUGH”

“Smilin’ Through” the principal jfealture at the Regent Theatre, is a great film, perfect in acting, in, story, in its English settings, and in the manner of its production. It is a triumph for Nonna Shearer,' one of the most brilliant actresses of the screen, and for the director, Sidney Franklin. Norma' Shearer’s extraordinary vitality 'is a dominating 'nature of the film, and not only is her own performance one of rare d’stmebion and great charm, hut the work of the two male principals, Fredric Marsh and Leslie Howard, is superb. All have exacting roles which call for great acting ability, for-the story covers, a period of fifty years, from the in’id-Victorian era fo the years of the Great War. and Miss Shearer and Fredric Marsh have dual portrayals. The picture has a perfectly balanced cast of supporting players, including Beryl Mercer, David Torrance, Ralph Forbes, Margaret Seddon, and, Forrester Harvey. The supporting programme is well iwortli seeing, and includes a thrilling trapeze a,ct by “The Codonas” and a song scena by Sir Harry Lauder.
