The announcement that the- Christian General, Feugqh-Siang, intends to use force against the Japanese for the purpose of preventing a truce is likely to complicate negotiations. A storm of protest from different parts of 'the country is demanding that the Chinese continue to offer resistance, placing tho Nanking Government and the northern jjolitical leaders in an awkward position.
Canton has definitely announced its refusal to recognise any SinoJapaneso truce and has already despatched a large army which is march rug northwards, while th e Nineteenth Route Army is reported to be proceeding north for the same purpose.
Disgruntled political elements are ’taking advantage of the northern situation to arouse national hostility against the Central Government.
