Tho annual report to be presented, to the shareholders at- the fiftieth annual meeting, to be held at fho offices, Peel Street, Gisborne, on Wednesday, June 7, is as under: — “Your directors herewith submit' the annual report and statement of accounts for the year, ended March 31, 1933. In spite of the reduced spending power of the public and economy being practised, the Company has made very satisfactory sales of cookers, water heaters and other appliances and it is confidently felt that by the adoption of an all ga. s tariff and painstaking and conscientious service to its 'consumers by a skilled and courteous staff, the Company’s activities are being much appreciated by the public. This augurs well for tlio future us service and satisfaction are the predominating factors and the many benefits gas provides, particularly in water heating, are rapidly being welcomed and extended to an approving public. Tho surplus in Hie profit and loss account for the year amounts to £1917 6s lid after providing for depreciation of plant, buildings, and machinery. Your directors recommend that "£3OO be appropriated te income tax, £3OO to a reserve for bad debts, that the preference dividend' of 8 per cent, less 20 per cent, ho paid absorbing £635 45., and the balance of £682 2s lid be carried forward to the credit ofythe profit and loss account, .The retiring d ireo ' tors aro Messrs. H. D. Ciirisp, H J. Buslteell and Dr. R. M-Gunn/ who arc eligible and offer themselves for re-election. Two auditors - have to be elcctod.

FARMERS’ TRADING CO. NO ORDINARY DIVIDEND. Despite difficult trading conditions tbe annual accounts of the Farmers Trading Company for the y ear e ' nt *' od March 31, disclose net profits amounting to £14,201. These figures compare with £25,149 recorded the •previous year. In their report to shareholders the directors state, inter alia: “Conditions in tlio business world have not improved since last report was issued. They have Ah fact, grown steadily worse with, the fall -in values of our dairy proc-uce, the most importiuit article of export from this province. It. lias been • a period of extreme difficulty. Few business concerns have made profits, and on the contrary it lia s generally been considered fairly tatisfae•to'ry to keep going without making a loss. It is thus all -Hie more satisfactory to find that Ibis company lias again made a. profit, although a small one, and not .sufficient fop - a dividend on 'ordinary shares. This lias been made possible by tho solid support of the .shareholders and other clients who /hay 6 kept tho turnover 'at d Wei. that is really • surprising, considering the /. circumstances ; also by the unabated zeal and loyalty of the liiahagemeiit and staff jvlio have co-operated/ wholeheartedly in the difficult tasli of keeping the expenses at a level in conformity with the turnover. -/■ / '
