RLATORIA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

The May meeting was held on the 2dth insfc. at the hotel, wjien there was a large attendance, including eleven from Waipiro Bay, where an Institute is to be organised shortly. Thy • meeting opened with .the Institute -Song and Creed, followed by general business. ■ Pleasure was expressed that Ruuturia won 3rd place for thrift articles at the Winter Show iu Gisborne.

Everyone was asked to remember ami to make known that a dramatic and {musical on ler Lai ament- will be given by the Dramatic Circle in tbe Ruatoria Hall on Thursday, June 1, at S p.m. The motto for the month is: “When up to your neck in hot water, be like a kettle and sing.” The great event of the afternoon was the visit of Mrs. Honore from Foxton and her demonstrations of seagrass stools, sugar hag mats and doopsteps from tobacco tins, all of which were watched with keen interest, and Mrs. Honore was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.

For the competition “The Prettiest Coat Hanger” there were 19 entries, all so pretty it was hard to choose the winners. The result was Mrs. Thornton. I, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hickey tying for second place. Thu hostesses lor the afternoon, Mesdames Penn, Hunter, Littlejohn, and Windsor served a most sumptuous tea which was fully appreciated. Mrs. Bradley, on behalf of the visitors, expressed thanks for the pleasant afternoon and hoped that when their Institute was organised tlie Ruatoria ladies would return the visit but “not all at one time.”
