At the annual meeting of North Island sheep-breeders, Mr, E. ItBlack moved : "That to finance a sheep and wool improvement scheme the Government he asked to pass legislation enabling the imposition of a levy of not more than threepence per bale on all wool grown in the North Island, or m the Dominion if the South Island wishes to come into the scheme. "Further, that the Government be asked’to pass an empowering clause to tlm Meat Board Act, giving the hoard discretionary power to subsidise any such levy to an extent that may ho rendered necessary by circumstances; further, that the total sum accruing be administered by a committee set up by the sheep farmers.’’

Air. Black said lie wished to emphasise that a levy of threepence a hale was less than one-hundredtli of a penny a pound of wool. Also, he wished to stress the fairness of such a tax —it would be impossible to vise a fairer method. “It will he realised,” lie said, "that good men must ho employed, with the continuity of i heir employment assured. A direct lew oil wool will provide that dependable annual income without which a scheme such as this could not function.” Mr J G. Field, who seconded the resolution, said the Meat Board wax sitting tight on £IOO,OOO, which should he made available lor tins research. (Applause). He eonsidere that the necessity for organisation was most apparent. The resolution was carried unarm mo u sly.
