James Lockhart, presiding at the conference on March 14, dealt with the movement for union among the various Free 1 lmrelv bodges. “There is a growing conviction.' he said, “that, organic union must be the end toward which we strive” Mr Lock hart mentioned that Presbyterians. Congregationalists and Baptists had appointed committees to confer with one another. He expressed hopeful expectation of a happy outcome to their discussions. ,
The Rev. Dr J. 11. Ritson, formerly secretary to the British and Foreign Bible Society, said world diffusion ol the Gospel must, be through revival of religion at home which could come only by devotional study of the Scriptures.
