REGENT
EDGAR WALLACE’S BEST
Britain’s best acted screen play entitled “The Frightened! Lady” will be shown for the last time to-day at the Regent. The story concerns the strange occurrences at Mark’s Priory, the country seat of the Lebanon family,' where an imperious dowager is endeavouring to conceal from Urn world the hereditary ■ taint of madness which makes its appearance in the life Of tlilc young Lord Lebanon, tbe last of his line. Careless of such considerations as eugenics or the propagation of the unfit, the dowager is determined that the young baron shall marry before he has time to fol. low the Lebanon habit of descending to an early grave by his own hand. This forms the basis of an exceedingly interesting story, and the addition of several sudden and. violent deaths as well as a good deal of exciting and rapid incident sees the tale end with a highly impressive climax. A mystery which completely baffles the brains of Scotland Yard 1 , and which involves the strangling of three oi> four of .the characters in the plot, is narrated cleverly and acted with conviction. Kathleen Nesbitt. Norman McKinnel and Gordon Barker play the principal parts. The demand for seats at the box office indicates crowded! houses for the opening sessions of Norma Shearer in “Smilin’ Through”, described as being the sweetest story ever told on the screen. Telephoned bookings should be collect ed before 7.30 p.m.
