DROUGHT ENDED
WELCOAIE RAIN FALLS
BOON TO FARAIERS
Welcome rain fell in Gisborne at intervals yesterday and late last night settled down to a steady downpour, thus ending the drought conditions wliicli have prevailed for thq past nine weeks. Alarch. 21, when the fall was 1.10 inches, was the lastday when rain of any consequence was experienced in Gisborne.
AATtli tlie continuance of .the dry spell, farmers wero becoming very anxious regarding winter feed supplies, but if the ground receives a good soaking now that, trouble should be obviated. Dairy production . was also falling off rapidly, . but, .since most, of the herds are still in g;ood order, the advent of the rain must extend and improve the season, very materially.
.Early in the year, many farmers embarked on heavy stocking, in view of the then probable abundance of fodder iii the future,-, and latterly they, too, wero very . .wbrried, but again relief - must bo - afforded by the latest raiii—provided V: always,.. of course, it does not abruptly cease.. Tlio borough will benefit with tho farmers and the recent restrictions on tho use of water may well be ffemoved at an early date..
