FIVE-ROOMED HOUSE DESTROYED. YARROW ESCAPE OF OCCUPANT (Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, May 15 A five-roomed house at Marshland owned by Ernest Grozier, was destroyed by fire at 11 o’clock last evening. The only occupant, Mrs. M. Crosier,: 74, mother of the owner, had difficulty in making her escape, and was crawling out on hands and knee? when a boy named Jackson, living in a where nearby, noticed her plight and went to her assistance. The fire is believed to be of incend iary origin, as a suspicious fire on the • previous Sunday at the same farm destroyed a cowshed, garage and haystack, the owner being absent at the. time. TWO SHOPS DESTROYED. INVERCARGILL, May 1-5. A fire at Winton early yesterday morning destroyed Liddell’s building and damaged the Anglican Church, adjoining. The stocks of Messrs. W. T. Hea'ds, Limited, drapers, and Mr. H. Diddell, bootmaker, were destroyed. The loss,is estimated at £2000; The buildings were insured for £600; Mr. Liddell’s stock for. £400.; and Messrs.
