SWINE-FEVER. OUTBREAK IN JOHNSON VI Lt ,K.
An outbreak of swine-ifeve.’ had been causing a. number of deaths recently among pigs in tbe Jobnsouvillc district, stated Dr. O. d. lloakcs Director of Agriculture, on. Friday. An investigation bv tbe Department of Agriculture of reports from Johngonvillo confirmed (be suspicion that tbo disease was .swine-fever, said. Dr. Rcakes. All tbe premises concerned had been at once quarantined and steps’ were now. being taken to quell tbo outbreak, which seemed to be confined to a limited area. In addition,' a fnrm-to-farm inspection was being started throughout the affected area and. surrounding districts. The 'trouble seemed to be mot with on ’onlv' a few forms .on which the pio-s were fed on city garbage. The source, of tbo trouble, Dr. Roakos concluded, would have to be thoroughly i nvestigated. No cn« >n £ from overseas vessels was allowed to be landed except for the purpose of immediate destruction.
