MAJESTIC

“THE OLE DARK HOUSE” “The oid Dark House” a startling drama of strange happenings at'midnight in an old Welsh which is being screened at the Majestic Theatre, is one'of the-weirdest pictures that has been shown in. Gisborne. With a sinister setting in the lonely Wo Mi mountains, on a dark and stormy night . it provides as thrilling entertainment as anyone could wish for, and at the same time has a fine leavening of humor and romance to relieve the tense dramatic situations.*The story concerns the experiences of a party of travellers who lose their way in the Welsh mountains and, finding the road blocked by landslips, are compelled to seek shelter at the'only'house in. the neighbourhood. A grotesque and terrifying creature opens the door to admit them, and they soon find that they are in a hous'e of mystery where they are very unwelcome guests. Boris Karloff has a terrifying make-up as the i drinksodden butler, and Brember Wills makes a horrifying spectacle as the madman. Melvyn Douglas, Charles Laughton, Gloria. Stuart, Lilian Bond anc} Raymond Massey are cast as the guests who experience the terrors ol the night in the lonely house. Eva Moore, a distinguished English actress, has a convincing role as the eccentric mistress of the house. Others in the cast are Efne’st. Thesiger and John Dudgeon? The supporting programme is of a high order,, including “Sports Slants”, “Strange as it Seems’, a couple of gazettes, and a good comedy.
