RAM FAIR

CONCLUDING DAY souirdowns under the HAMAIER DECLINE IN DEMAND TOWARDS END STUD RAM BRINGS 20gns. At the concluding day of the ram fair at MM-awhoro yards yesterday, u, start was mado with Lincolns, but despite the fact that the ontry totalled under 100, they did not appear to bo in demand, competition being practically non-existent. A lew pons were sold under the hammer, and a’ l’cw purchases were made privately l at a .very low figure, not exceeding one guinea, aud in. many cases changing hands at only IQ's 6d. The Soutlidowns mot with much better competition, bidding being brisk at the start. The prices were better than anticipated, and' about 80 per cent, of the entry of 1080 were sold. In the latter part of the sale, however, there was a marked decrease in the fiiddiug, which at times became dull. Rams of good quality; met with a good sale and changed hands at up to Signs. The yarding, however, exceeded the demand, probably on account of the Jjarge purchases made last year. 11l the stud Southdown section there was at times a good demand, the top . price being obtained by Mr A. W. Wheeler, of Marlon, for a one-shear, Avhicli was purchased bv Air J. Andrews at 20gns., while Air C. Hawken, of Hawera, sold, a 2shear ram to Air G. J. White for 17 guineas. Thero was a good attendance of buyers in the morning, but the nurn•bers dwindled in the afternoon Taken generally, the. fair must be regarded as quite satisfactory when it is considered that rams were yarded in ' the three sections—Romneys, Lincolns, and Soutlidowns.
