REDS CLASH IN GERMANY

POLICE HAVE TO INTERVENE,

Ten thousand Nazis shivered in. the bitter cold arid falling snow awaiting a great demonstration m Buclow Square in memory of the Nazi student Horst Wessol,. whom Communists’ mur do red in 1930.

Thousands of police, including detachments armed with carbines and three machine-gunned armored ears, guarded the square and took precautions to prevent a dash with the Communists,

The precautions included a search of Karl Liehkneeht’s house, and also the Communist headquarters overlooking the square for arms and munitions.

Notwithstanding this, the Communists assembled in force in the neighbourhood.Numerous disturbances followed/ in which scores of people were injured. Two of the police were badly knifed.

The police swiftly scattered the combatants with baton, charges, firing shots in the air. Searchlight patrols continued after dark.

The Nazis made a procession to the cemetery, where a memorial to Weasel was unveiled. TTorr Hitler, officiating declared that the Nazis would fight until the great hour arrived when disunity, distress and hunger had disappeared in Germany.

Ho recalled Bismarck’s words: “Wo Germans fear God and 110 one else, even if the world is full of devils". The ex-Kaiser and the Crown Prince sent wreaths.

Armed police shepherded the Nazi procession through the working class quarters where the Communists erected barricades of dustbins and blazing mattresses,' necessitating the attentions of the fire brigade. Communists in North Berlin dropped blazing oil barrels on the Nazis who were morchhomoward.

The casualties include a woman wlm was badly wounded, a man who was shot dead by police bullets, and four policemen who were stabbed. There wore IDO arrests.
