Major Harry Barnes, husband -of Miss Mary Cobb, the actress, cabled to the Daily Express that the steamer Tarouga caught fire at 7.30 o clock on Saturday evening and turned back to Pei'in when four hours an ay. "We stood by with our suitcases packed hoping we would not have to leave the ship,” be said. <- lhen we saw the bold explode under the third officer and third engineer, who had miraculous' escapes, being only sliglitlv burned. They continued fighting the fire. "The crew struggled all bight amid suffocating smoke but the fire spread to other holds holding casks of fallow.
"The -Tarouga managed to make the harbor with’ a list of 30 degrees. The cargo included 15,000 bales of wool, 1900 tons of Hour, 3600 tons of wheat, and 1500 tons of copia .
