SEW NAME FOR AERODROME. R.S.A. PROPOSAL APPROVED.. ' Approval for a suggestion that the Gisborne aerodrome should henceforth be known as ‘‘Darton Pield,” in recognition of the services rendered by the late Mr. meorge Darton, was given by the Borough Council at last evening’s meeting. The following letter from Mr. W. Oakden, secretary of the Gisborne R.S.A., was placed before the meeting:,, / "At a recent meeting of my executive, during a discussion as to some mean s of perpetuating the name of our late vice-president,' the late Mr George Darton, a resolution was passed that ..it be suggested to the council that, in recognition of the late engineer’s outstanding services to the borough, and, in particular, his part in -making the formation of the local aerodrome possible, the lattei might, with good reason, be named ‘Darton Field’. A suggestion was also made that it might be possible—'should the council receive the first suggestion favorably—for the name to he given immediately in view of the visit of Sir Charles Kingsford Smith in the Southern Cross. I shall he obliged, therefore, if" you will place this matter before the council at the next meeting.’ The Mayor (Mr D. W. Coleman, M.P.) pointed out that the 3&.5-A. clearly - bad the right to suggest a name for the aerodrome, for Mr Darton had played such an important part in its construction.
