Monsignor Ronealli, Apostolic delegate, protested to the Premier regarding the baptism of the Princess. The Premier replied that the Princess was baptised owing to the decision of the head of the State and the Government, in conformity with the stipulation of tlie constitution and the will of the nation. Monsignor Ronealli also protested to the King. It is emphasised that the baptism was secret, oiily tbo Premier and two others being previously aware of the ceremony. ROME, Jan. 16. A Vatican dignitary says .that the Vatican is awaiting the Queen’s recovery to ascertain .whether' she consented. If she did not dissociate herself with the baptism she would not be received by tlie Pope. The dignitary deplored the unchiv.alrousness and deceit of the Queen also in rushing tho ceremony before the arrival of her mother.
