SUMMARY AND FORECAST. .Press •*•ssooiatiou.' 1 WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. —General Situation— The recent northern cyclone has at last passed away and a rather iuten’se westerly depression bus advanced on to tho Dominion. An anticyclone covers Eastern Australia with its centre to-day over Tasmania. —•Forecast— Moderate to strong, northerly to westorly, hacking to squally southerlies by to-morrow. Seas; Rather rough' to rough generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong south-west winds, and rough seas, hut wind and sea gradually decreasing.
Weather; Cloudy ancT unsettled, with rain in most districts. Temperature's becoming cooler to-morrow, but conditions improving fairly rapidly after a southerly change.
