Barry, of Gisborne, are guests ar Te Puka Hotel on a short visit. • * * Tiie home of Air and Airs T. Conoid was the scene, on Thursday evening last, of a very happy and jolly surprise party, when a number of young people arrived .there to make merry, and were most hospitably entertained by their host and hostess. Aliss Ivy Connie, at the piaDO, provided delightful music for community singing, in .which’ all joined. “Later, ■vhe floor was cleared for dancing and games. After a dainty supper and before dispersing, all joined in singing “For They are Jolly Good Fellows ' in tribute to their kindly hosts. Those present included: Misses Carr (Gisborne), Tucker and Povnall (Hastings), Baine, Coombe, D.'Pepper B. Walker, Angus, Brodie and E. Oath’s ; Alessrs Cooper. Harrison, AlcGonagle, Thacker, Alannion. Adams. Holiover and Johnson. TE EARAKA NOTE? COUNTRY DANCE (Special to the Times.) A most enjoyable woolshed dance, organised by the Te Karaba Women’s 1 Institute, was held on Saturday even, ing at Potutu Station by the kind invitation' of Air and Airs H. Allen, who had artistically decorated the t=hed with colored streamers and ferns, giving it quite a festive air. In spite of the very inclement weath.-, er, iai large number of dancing on-h thusiasts braved the elements and \ enjoyed a very jolly evening. About 60 couples were present, music - being supplied by the Rangatira_ Orchestra, while Aliss Lena Ruru and Mr E. McKay assisted .with extras. A dainty supper was handed round by the members. The Institute building- fund should be considerably augmented by the support, accorded.
