Frederick Avery, aged *ls, boot repairer, alias Frederick William Seaton, and his daughter Rita Isabel .Avery, 2‘o, alias Seaton, -were both arrested at f’ukekoiio. by De'leciTveMeAVhirter . and charged with h.iv--ing committed incest on July 7 1932*7
Father and daughter appeared together in the dock in tile .police Court, and were remanded until January 25.
Mr. Aekms, who appeared for the male accused, asked for bail.
“No, T strongly object to haii,” said Detective-Sergeant. Kelly. “There may be a charge of murder before this is finished.”' .
“Murder!” said the magistrate, Mr AY. R. McKean.
■Mr. Kelly: Yes, sir, concerning the suffocation of a. child. The daughter gave birffi to a child, of which tile father is .believed to 'he the father. It was born on October 2,3, and was found suffocated in its cot on the morning of December 14. -Bail was refused both accused, hut Major Annie Gordon undertook to' take charge of the girl until the case' was heard.
