SWELLED HEAD?

MAX SCHMELING ANNOYS GERMAN FIGHT FOLLOWERS

A report from Berlin (Germany) states that the former world's heavyweight boxing champion. Max Sell moling, the victim of that disputed verdict. in which a referee' ami a judge gave Jack Sharkey of America Max's title in America some months back, is very unpopular with bis fellowcountrymen.

Sehmeling’s countrymen are also peeved because he has failed to appear in a bona-fide exhibition on tliei 1 " side since winning the heavyweight championship nearly three years ago. ’Tis said Max has the "swelled head.” Local newspapers, in particular are severe in their criticism of his actions.

It is charged that Schmeling agreed to referee a series of contests and failed to make an appearance. His action resulted in the promoters suffering financial losses. Many shows were widely advertised, and the fact that Schmeling was to act as reiot'ee attracted large crowds. Schmeling’s friends say that the ex-champion is weary of boxing, that the decision which relieved him of the world’s title ■ robbed him of all fistic enthusiasm.

Schmeling is due to return to America in quest of his lost crown. But before he ran enter the United Statcsi Schmeling will have io consent to meet Primo Camera, and the young Californian, Max Baer.
