TENNIS

AUSTRALIA v. AMERICA

INTEREST FADES IN FINAL TEST

fU.P.A. by Elec. Tei. Copyright)

SYDNEY, Jan. 13 There was a poor attendance at the final tennis tests.

Against McGrath and Quist, Oh’dhill and Van Ryn respectively gave very indifferent displays and did not exert themselves in the slightest degree. They conveyed the impression that they had too much tennis, and for the time-being had lost interest. Alison also was lethargic opposing Hopman until when the Australian was leading, o—3.0 —3. 3—o, ami then Allison exerted himself, and, with Hopman falling away, won an uninteresting match. The doubles game, however, saw a thrilling struggle, with Crawford giv ing his best, display for years. Hopman was out of touch, and the American team work triumphed in the end. Gledhill was a dynamic force in the last three sets, volleying, smashing, and driving to great effect. Results.—
