Eor the past few days motor lorries from all parts of the country have :been .streaming.:into. Kaiti works, ancl all hands have been kept, working at t-op speed. On Thursday the killings established a record’for any individual day in Poverty Bay since the innnguratiou of the industry in this district the stock put through totalling 683 S head, the previous largest feeing 6,735 head one day last year. More than half the killings on Thursday ■were big sheep, hut, excellent team work saw the work completed in a most expeditious manner.
. Next week this' is expected to he exceeded for more stock is now coming into the works.
Waterstdors also will fee kept working at top speed next week for three liners will be in port to lift frozen meat. The vessels are the Port Caroline, Pakehn and Northumberland, and between them they will take from 50,000 and 60.000 freight carcases. Another liner, the Taranaki, will cal] at Gisborne during the week to lift wool. In addition, there are the usual coastal vessels to work. Thus for a few days at least, Gisborne will next welc, resume its old time activity, and more money will bo distributed in wages than has been the case for a very long time.
