The Daily Herald gives promin. ence to the fact that one or two meat combines handling South d* o ? 6 * rican supplies are about to invade the Australian meat industry on a large scale in order to take full advantage of the trading facilities agreed to at Ottawa between Britain and the Dominions.
The Daily Herald couples the news with the Australian proposals to develop the Northern Territory as a source of supplies. Sir Edmund Vesty, interviewed, said that it would take Australia a decade to produce enough cattle to replace South American supplies kept out of Britain by the Government's policy. Before the end of a year there would be a sharp rise in meat, which the poorest consumers would feel most.
