Thomas William Lecco, 65, was fined £IOO in the Police Court to-day for keeping a common gaming house, and David Henry Kirk, 54, was lined £SO for assisting him. Loece’s premises were in a private house, and during a raid while Detective Brady was answering the tel-mhone, he took several bets, including the winning double at Ellersh’e.
Counsel said that Leece, although he would not have laid the same double -himself, . felt in honour bound to pay out on it. Leece did .'no cash betting, but did everything over the telephone. He paid income tax every year. -
