PROTEST BY RETIRED CIVIL SERVANTS AGAINST REDUCTIONS. ' TALK OF "FIGHTING FUND.” At a meeting at Chl'Ts'tchuiell which was attended by about 200 superannuated civil servaots. it "'as decided to make the fullest possible resistance if Ihe Government propose.; to give effect Lo the National Expenditure Commission's recommendations involving a reduction in superannuation payments. Willingness was expressed to contribute to a ‘'fighting fund,’' which will enable Lhe matieif to he fought out in Fue Courts, even before the Privy Council it necessary. The meeting appointed Air. W. IT. t ; lagger, formerly conciliation commissioner in Christchurch. to discuss the situation with a committee of superannuated civil servants in WellingtonThe meeting rejected a suggestion that the Government be asked not to reduce superannuation payments of £2OO a year or less, standing out for no reductions at all. It was contended ihat those receiving superannuation. considering the sums which civil servants bad paid into the fund, were entitled to press for the full returns provided for.
