Blob., one of the world's oldest tortoises, has died at the London Zoo. She was presented by the Governor of the Seychelles "Islands, in tlie Indian Ocean in August, 1010. when she weighed about ljeivt., and wns known to he 120 years old. Her reputed age was much greater. Blob carried Iter years well, for at the m<piest -she was found to he the mother of 222 eggs, ranging in size from that nf mere marbles to ping-pong balls. A cabbage a dav had kept the doctor away until she suddenly developed kidney i rouble, she was a yard long, with'a waist line bf 72 inches. hut her brain was no lugger than a walnut, v.hieh may have accounted for her longevity, for Blob had a a worries. Only a tew hundred of these giant l.wiuCes now exist. Two centuries ago they swarmed m the Seychelles, ‘ Galanagcs, Pacific Ocean, and other remote island groups, hut their flesh, oil, and eggs made them much too valuable to he allowed to live.
