A novel idea for souvenirs of tlie old Wellington College which was demolished last year has been put into practice by a Wellington .violinmaker. He obtained suitable pieces of kauri from the old building, and fashioned a number of ukuleles. The maker stated that, although, kauri was not' the favorite material ror ukuleles, the result had been gratifying, and the instruments possessed a tone which had received a very favorable comment.

“We. the wild animals or Kruger National Park, appeal for your sympathy and friendship. You have been our bitter enemies for so long that it takes time to make us understand that a new and happier era has begun for us. ; Do _not betray our trust in you.” This footnote appears at the end of a table of “don’tx” issued in pamphlet form to visitors to the Kruger National Park, at Worcester, South Africa, its popularity having made it necessary to issue regulations or hints for the benefit of visitors. Following is typical of the “don’ts” : “Don’t get • alarmed if lions stand and stare at your car. They have probably not seen one before, and are naturally overwhelmed with astonishment. * They don't mean any harm, and iu fact are looking at vour car and not at you. The lion’s nose tolls him at once that a car is not good to eat. and only smells ot petrol, and lie has'not realised that human beings arc inside: if he dm he would run away. If you find lions standing or lying in the middle of the road in front of you, it is not necessary to do more than slow down: when you get close they will get up and move .to the side out of your way.”
