Air. J. R. Kirk. Af.B.E,. of Gisborne. was unanimously re-elected chairman of the council at the annual meeting of the Bov Scouts’ Association at Christchurch last week.
Tile many friends of Mr. and Airs F. 11. Ball, of Gisborne, will deeply regret to learn of the death on Sunday at Riverton of Airs. Bail’s mother, Airs. R. Aleck, who had attained Iho advanced age of So years. The late Airs. Aleck was a native of Scotland and she landed in Dunedin when still in her teens. After their marriage, Air. and Afrs. Aleck resided in Oamaru and later at Fairfax, in Southland, where Air. Aleek engaged in farming and was also a pioneer in the prod notion of agricultural lime. Air. Aleek, who was most enterprising, was also associated with the introduction of butter and cheese-making in Southland. He died about three years ago at the ago of 86. Mrs. Meek had been seriously iil for the past five months. She leaves a family of four daughters and three sons, to whom much sympathy will be extended hv numerous friends throughnift tho Dominion.
