'22, A report from Agua Calienta (Mexico) states that inquiries reveal that Phar Lap will apparently be given every opportunity to meet- op ponents under the best- conditions oh March 20.. He may be housed in a special stable, which has sheltered some of the most famous horses of the American turf. The Australian champion will be accorded every special privilege possible in an effort to enable easy acclimatisation. Harry Pollok, the events chairman, stated: —

“I have arranged that the own ors may bring all Phar Lap’s own feed —oats, grain, hay, and chaff 1 , and possibly water. We have received no word as to probable date of arrival, but intend to have a representative to meet him at San Francisco and assist in his transfer to Agua- Caliente. We have already arranged that there will bo no difficulty in. crossing the Mexican border and are assured of the best possible conditions on the trip. Much depends on the hprso and the length of time ho is trained here. But, given suffi- , cient time, I see no reason why the climate should hold Phar Lap back.” Mr Pollok refused to hazard a guess concerning the probable odds on tho racer or the weight to he assigned. <! The scale for five-year-olds at that time of the year at Agua Caliente is 1291b5. That is what Sunbeau carried last year. I do not believe a foreign Horse could be handicapped more.” He asserted that all horses would bo under heavy guard for protection and stated that no fears were held or yet expressed by American trainers concerning; Phar. Lap’s invasion. “Rather”, lib said, "they are interested in seeing what the outcome will be.
