Having had statements brought under his notice to the effect.that there, is jto be a .wholesale closing..of small country, schools, the Hon. R. Masters iriade the following’ statement s ‘fit is not intended that there should bo any wholesale. , closing of email schools, but in a number of instances the only teacher procurable is an. un*. certified, girl with no training.. The education of pupils can be.. carried on much more efficiently, and incidentally • much mor® economically, by means of a correspondence school... “Grade O schools cost the country £l4 5s per head, and- the correspondence school can do the work or about £6 a head'.
