ROWING
GISBORNE CLUB. SECOND TRIAL FOURS. The second trial fours, rowed over the mile course, were commenced last evening, when two races were rowed. There arc fourteen crews altogether in this event, and it is hoped to complete the first round over the week-end. ’The second round is to commence on Monday evening. In the first race last evening, Brif. fault (str.), Thodey, J. Slade and Skeet defeated Woodward (str.), Shaw, O’Halloran and Perry. Bnflault went all out at the start and soon drew away from his opponent and at Roebuck Road was nearly two lengths ahead. Woodward made several attempts to draw level, but it was not till Derby street had been passed- that he -menaced Briffault. tiriffault, however calked for more weight, and passed the post a length and a half to the good. Bell (str.), ..Walker, Morrison and Craig, met Kennedy (str.), Hewitson, Bruce and Cleaver. At the start, Kennedy got away fairly smartly and was soon half a length ahead. Bell settled down, however, and at Roebuck Road the crews were about level. From here, Bell gradually drew ahead, ' and at the finish he was two lengths ahead of Kennedy,
