WILFUL DAMACE
RELIEF WORKER BREAKS PLATEGLASS WINDOWS DAAIAGE ESTIMATED AT £2OO (Press Assoofatton' WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. Damage estimated at over £-00 was caused within a few seconds by a man who walked along Manners street, striking th 0 largo plate-glass windows of-Messrs James Smith Ltd., with a piece of iron piping, early this evening. At about 6.15, tlie man, an elderly relief worker, and short of stature, began to walk along the firm’s Alanners street frontage, striking the windows with a piece of galvanised iroiu waterpipo about 7 Inches long and an inch in diameter. Aloving along towards Cuba street, bo holed each window, sending long tentacle-like cracks across the glass with every blow. He had broken six windows and two show cases when a passer-by dashed up and snutclied the weapon from his hands. Police -Sergeant: Paine then came up and took the man into custody. All the windows liad been specially dressed for the cotton exhibition, which is to open there today. The man will appear in the Police Court -tomorrow morning.
