The following report is issued' for the week ended September 12: —‘ Waitangi No 2 Well—Milled through - easing and drilled ahead twelve, feet, to 1654 feet. Now preparing for running Sin. string. • ‘ '‘ V Moturoa Oil Fields Ltd' report—No. 2 well produced ' 150' barrels of clean oil. To overcome sanding up, withdrawing tubing and well is being cleaned out. , . ; SHEEPSKINS, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES .Messrs Balgety apd Co., Wellington,, report as follows: '“We held our'fortnightly sale of sheepskins, hides, tallow and sundries on Sept. 11, and submitted a fair catalogue -of all grades to a full representation of buyers. Sheepskins.—ln sympathy with the London saes held on September 3, prices showed a decided drop and generally were id to 3d lower than previous quotations. Seedy, damaged and inferior parcels were again difficult of sale, and in some cases did not elicit a bid. - .Salteds declined 3dHides.—Our offering comprised some nice lines of freezer, abattoir and country parcels, and owing to overseas markets being very unsteady, values for heavies, mediums, lightweights and kips were; Id to 3d lower. Yearlings were in demand at rates better than the level, of previous quotations. There was a good order on the market for sound well flayed calf, prices, for these being 3d and at times Id better than late rates. For a nice line weighing 6lbs we secured .-Sid and bs. 53d Tallow.—The demand was erratic at prices Is to Is 6d lower. Messrs Murray Roberts and Co., Wellington, report as follows: LAt the sale on September 11 we submitted a good offering of hides to the*’ usual attendance of hr. vers, when the market showed a further weakness, prices for cow hides declining up to id. Light ox dropped Id, medium ox £d, and heavy ox fully Id to lid, and in the present state of overseas markets it does not appear likely that any early recovery can be looked for.
