The prevai’ing fashion in nomenclature is to call cars after snakes atm insects, and aeroplanes after birds. On land there aro Hornets, Ghats, Midgets, Vipers and Scorpions. In the air the names are more romantic. Eagle, Falcon, Condor, Hawk have lent their. names to famous Rolls-Royce engines. Now ihoy are joined bv Kestrel and Bustard. whose names are used, by Air Ministry request, in place of the former designations “F” and “Ji.” The - system of calling engines by letters was found to bo confusing.
