COMPULSORY REDUCTION OF 468,009 BARRELS' DAILY.

(U.P.A. bv Elec. Tel- Copyright.) NEW YORK, August 17. The Governor of Texas, air. Sterling, has followed the advice of tho Governor of Oklahoma, Mr. W. H. Murray (“Alfalfa Bill”), and proelamied martial law to check the excessive production of Texas oilfields “by reason ol : tho reckless, unlawful, and criminal handling of producing wells,” and troops to-day began enforcing a compulsory reduction of 468,000 barrels of oil per day, or two thirds the previous daily flow. The move was made under the new-ly-enacted conservation laws, which are expected to deplete accumulations of stored petroleum and force the price to a dollar or more.
