OBITUARY
MRS. EILY M. GURR
Tlie death occurred on Alonday, at T'e Ararou, of Mrs. Elly Maude G-urr, J.P-, wife of Mr. Norman L. Gurr, and mother of Dr. Elaino Gurr, of To Araroa. Mrs. Gufr, who was tlie third daughter of 4he Into Air- Charles; Ring-wood of the Indian Civil Service*, Was born at Dehrugur, India, < and came to New Zealand when about 10 years of age. Mrs. Gurr; was educated at a private school ut Oncliunga and, since her marriage! to Mr- N. L. Gurr, at One time one of the Dominion’s most prominent amateur athletes, she has boon in tnost parts; v of the Dominion, but for some time had been living at To" Araroa, where she was recently appointed a J.P. - ; Always ready to render help where help was heeded, Mrs. . Gurr was widely-known for her kindly -disposr tion and keen work ‘ in causes for the common good, particularly. in connection with the Red Gross Society, of 'which" she- was a certificated member. In Dannevirke she rendered - great assistance ■ during the ; in-,’ fluenza -epidemic of 1918' and, during the war, -at which time she obtained subscriptions .sufficient to send Miss MoCluro (Dannevirke) to Egj-pt as a volunteer. sister. . ? ;In all’ matters relating ’.to sport ■ Airs. Gurr took a great interest and rendered valuable■ assistance.
