Mr W - McCormick, of the Gisborne slaff of the Public. Works Department, has been advised or his transfer 1 to Napier, where h e will b'encaged in connection with re.-tora-tion work in that town. Mr. -* rCormick. who leaves Gisborne on Mondav to take over his new duties, will be erratlv missed in the town, where he” has been particularly prominent in tennis circles, being a member of the Whntaupoko Club. He came to Gisborne from Wellington. Profe=sor Marshall Allan, of tho chair of midwifery at Melborirne University. is n’t present visiting Gisborne.‘ and has placed himself in the hands of the local executive of tim B M.A. \ T esterday he gave .a demonstration at St. Helen's Hospital, an address to women at the Y.M.C.A.. and last night a round-table disepfsion with Gisborne members of the medical profession. Professor Allan had originally intended to he present, and deliver an address at the annual conference of the N.Z. division of the 8.M.A.. which was to have been held in G isborae. but was abandoned on account of the earthquake disaster.

The death occurred at Wairoa on Monday morning at his late residence. Carroll Street, or Leonard Storey, an old identity and esteemed resident of the town. The deceased had been in bad health for some considerable time, suffering from a serious internal complaint which lie bore with remarkable fortitude throughout the whoiq of his illness. The late Mr. Storey was closely identified with the business or Wairoa for many years. In his younger days he was in .the P. and T. Department at Palmerston North, but after his marriage he took over the old Clyde Hotel from his father-, in-law, the late Mr. Hewitt, and successfully conducted that, well-known, house for many years. Later on, he went into the auctioneering and commission agency business. At one time he owned quite a lot cf property in Wairoa. but of recent- years suffered considerable losses in this respect through fire-s and the slump.
