Earthquake relief was discussed at the Methodist Conference to-’day, and the following resolutions, were carried : '‘That tbe conference expresses its appreciation of th e promptitude and liberality of cur churches and people throughout the Dominion in contributing to the general earthquake fund; that to meet the special needs that have arisen through the disastrous earthquake, the . conference resolves that there be established a Methodist earthquake relief fund, tlie object of which shall be to sustain tlie work of good in tlie stricken area : that an immediate appeal be made to our Methodist people.for liberal assistance to our impoverished circuits in their great need; that the earthquake relief monies now held bv the circuits and the chairman he paid, into tin's fund. The conferencefurther commends this appeal to the favorable consideration of trust boards throughout tbe Dominion.”' Tho chairman of the Hawke’s BayManawatu district said that the rehabilitation of tlie earthquake area was a connexional responsibility as many of the members were practically ruined, and Hie circuit resources were practically nil-. From £IOOO to £I2OO was needed for immediate relief, to say nothing of what would be required later for the restoration of properties.
