The inspector of fire brigades, Captain Hugo, retires from the Government- service on March 81. His duties will be temporarily taken by Mr If. Girling Butcher, chief inspector of explosives. Reference to Captain Hugo’s retirement- was made by the Minister of Internal Affairs yesterday. Much of the efficiency of th e brigades to-day was due to the splendid co-operation Captain Hugo, as a very experienced fire fighter, had, succeeded in obtaining throughout the Dominion.—P.A.
