* Tho Cook County Council inquired if the council. would accept 15 percent., the same as last.year,, as their quota of heavy traffic- fees.. —The Mayor mentioned that tlio proportion had been- in dispute and in "some other places the borough councils 'received up to .50 per cent., according to information gleaned by Gisborne representatives at tlio last municipal conference. Since the present apportionment was-agreed to, the position had changed and the borough now held the fees collected. On his motion, the question was referred to tlm linaneo committee.'

Geo. Darton) reported that the . water reticulation throughout the borough hail been given the usual attention, lvo new Services were installed, viz., one mn. at Shell Co.’s depot and one ini ..at Awapuui road reserve. Work kau beou carried out as- follows: Repair - ino* leaks ou top line- and iu town; laving services; repairing hydrants, valves, cisterns and taps. Ihe top lino had been maintained in working order.- There werej four leaks during the fortnight, viz., one at Hamilton’s, two at McLaugliliu s Cutting and one at Muluwheru bridge* The ciuantity of water that passed; through the Venturi .meter for the weeks ending Mb and 16th Februarv, 1961, was • 6,310,000; and 5,760,000 gallons respectively.
