Keen disappointment lias been expressed in athletic circles at the news that Miss Violet Nichol, formerlv Otago ladies’ 100 yards champion . will not he competing at Hie provincial or N.cw Zealand championships. Mi SS Nichol it. the best lively runner yet produced in Otago and a couple of years ago she looked like winning a New' Zealand title. lhe '.Gore girl; won the 100yds championIship” of - Otago in 1929 . in*, the great time of 11 2osec, with the assistance of the breeze, but . she failed to reproduce that form in Wellington, and ran. fourth in the New Zealand ladies’ ICO yarcls- championship, being, verv much off color on the-day. ■ She was'disappointing at the Otago meeting Hast season, but high hopes had been held- or her participating this season.' so that Otago could field a reallv - representative relay team.
