A mile-long queue is wading to Lie past Marshal Joffre’s body, which is lying on a soldier’s camp'bed, draped in flags, at the chapel of L’Ecolo Milyt'airc. dressed in his 1914 field uniform.
Ho wears the Medaille Militaii'e and the insignia of the Grand Cross and Legion of Honor. The marshal’s long blue cloak covers the lower pa.rt of the body, and the hands rest on the gold liilt of his sword. Four generals with .drawn swords are .standing in each corner of the catafalque, with the marshal’s sfanda rd-bearer behind.'
