FIRES

HOUSE GUTTED AT SPRINGVALE.

(Press Association.) WANGANUI, Jan. 5

Fire completely gutted a fiveroomed house, the property of Constable A. Nairn, at Springvale. tonight. Mrs. Nairn, on the discovery ef the blaze, ran outside and collapsed. One of her three children rushed to Mr. Hammond, a neighbor, saying that she wauled water as her mother had fainted. Mr. Hammond misinterpreted the message and thought that Mrs. Nairn was still in the blazing house. He and another man, Thompson, burst in the front door and made a search, a courageous action under the circumstances as the- house was then a furnace. Constable Nairn was on duty when the fire developed. Proctect yourself against losses by fire b_y insuring with the Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society. Ltd W. Lissant Clayton.*
