All. semblance of bipartisan Oongressional accord with President Hoover vanished when the Senate Agricultural Committee unanimously approved of the sixty million dollars drought relief programme in disregard to the twenty-five million dollars Administration proposal. Senator McNary, chairman of the committee, announced that he would report the sixty million measure to the Senate on December 8 for prompt passage. Meanwhile it is foreseen that the passage of this and other contemplated Bills will apparently increase the year’s Treasury deficit from 180 million dollars contemplated in President Hoover’s budget, to 330 millions.
AFRIDIS STILL TROUBLESOME,

Captain Henry St. Clair Ogilvie Mill, Adjutant of Rattray’s Sijkhs, was killed by an almost spent bullett and a private of the Seaforth Highlanders was wounded. The troops were covering road-mak-ing. parties, when the Afridis opened fire and attacked boldly till checked by a bayonet charge by tlie Jat regiment. The Seventeenth Dogras did good work driving the attackers back.

• The Reichstag, by 293 votes to 253, defeated a Nationalist-Commun-ist motion to revoke Bills for enforcing the Government's financial schemes, which even surprised the Government. A Nationalist motion of confidence was decided unadmissihle for : tactical reasons, after which the Nationalist-Communist no-confid-ence motion was rejected by 291 to 156. Cabinet!. will thus be able to proceed with its emergency legislation. and financial reforms.

FOUR BANDITS HANGED.
