The State election campaign is probably the most bitter on.- record. Commercial interests are speculating as to where Air Lang is to obtain Ids millions to enable him to fulfil bis lavish promises. The Premier and his supporters are telling the people that the return of Air Lang’s party will spell disaster not only to the State but. to the Common wealth. There was a significant development to-day, when Air Lang appeared unexpectedly in. the Federal capital and it is understood he asked the Federal Cabinet to refrain from announcing any salary wage reduction in tbc case of civil servants on the ground that it would prejudice the Stale Labor party’s chances at the forthcoming elections, lie claimed that Labor’s return to power was already assured. Tie then loft lor an adjoining' centre, Quoonbearynn, where be kepi in touch with the Federal Cabinet’s, doings.
It is further reported from Canberra to-night that a. threat overhangs the Federal Ministry to the effort that- any New South A) ales members of the Ministry who agree to wage reductions will lie asked to resign and be replaced bv others who will give effect to the State Labor policy. The Federal Ministry thus faces an embarrassing situation.
