He was a ioinier member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, Minister of Trade and Customs"', and also of Education. As a member of the House of Representatives lie Was Minister ;of Defence in the Reid-AlcLean 1 of 1905. He was commander of the Second Infantry Brigade in the First Australian Division at Gallipoli, and was In-spector-General of the Australian military forces m 1915-16.

With five wccks to the attainment of' 100 fears of age'. Mrs. Mary Ann Catt died on Tuesday at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. 11. Judd, Bath Street , SI than). • Born on : Sussex, England, on November 10, 1830, Mrs. Catt came to New Zealand 70 years ago. amt settled at Hutt for JG years and later, was resident in the W airarapa'Her husband, Mr. Win. 'Catty, died 30 "years ago. airs. Catt came to Dltlmin from Master ton in 1925. til* til three years ago, she retained her faculties and well remembered many incidents of the early days. During the Croat Mar Mrs.'Catt was an indefatigable worker in tlio interests of the" soldiers, making clothing for the Belgian children. Deceased for over a quarter ol a century had been prominently associated with education in Pctouc, commencing his Pet one career at the central • school l ucre, and then at the Petone district 'high school. In. 1909 when Petone West school opened, he was appointed its first headmaster, and in 1921 when the position of headmaster of the Petone Central school became vacant, Mr. Bedingfield was appointed' to the position, which, he had’ ably filled ever since. Deceased is survived by his widow, a daughter, Miss Bedingfield, who is following the teaching profession, and a son, Mr D. L- Bedingfield, 8.A., L.L.13, who is practising law in Petone.
