LONGEST DRIVER ? NEW GOLF FIND. 1 . Who is the world’s longest driver of a .golf ball? Tommy Armour, considered to bo the greatest iron player, gives the title to Clarence Gamber, lis assistant at Boca Raton, ’Florida, whose average drive is 360 yards! Gamber is about 26 years old, is 6ft. 11 in. in height, and built like a young steer. He has hands of iron and wrists like barrels. Armour declares that his discovery can outdrive any golfer in the world—even including the great Abo Mitchell himself. He carries 300yds. with A spoon or brassie, has cleared a ditch with a driver 340 yards from the tee, lias been on a 612-yards, green with a drive with a No. 2 iron, and his favourite hole is one of 3S-5 yards which leaves him with a 20-yard chip to the pin after- his drive has covered the rest of the journey. Camber uses a 43-inch driver weighing 16 ounces. He began by being a wiki and woolly golfer, his drive usually finishing not only on'the wrong fairway, says Armour, but on the wrong golf course! But he has lately tightened Up his game, straightened out his swing, and now hits 16 good ones' out of IS drives. ■ Armour says that, with proper schooling in the short, game, Gamber will clean up. the world, for be has the correct temperament for golf and the strength! to play for weeks without fatigue. If he turns out to be as good as he,promises to be, the'golf crown is his for-the talcing, for Hagen is no longer the golfer” he was. and Jones is almost certain to retire should he-win the American amateur championship' in September, which seems very likely.
