A conference between the Senate and the House of Representatives resulted in a. compromise in regard to the contentions clauses of the Arbitration Bill. The Senate, .by 14 votes to 4, m the early hours of flu- morning, decided to request .that a statutory measure ho introduced to provide for a reduction-.of 10. per cent, in the salaries of Ministers and .members of the Federal Parliament, also members of the Public Service. The Prime. Minister, in the House of Representatives this afternoon announced that he could not accept the Senate’s request, which after a stormy debate, was rejected 011 the voices. . .
