SEV KN-ROOMEB HOUSE GUTTED. OCCUPANTS' NAROW ESCAPE. (Press Association.) NAPIER, April 1. A seten-roomed house al Aivatoto, owned by S. Harris, and occupied by ■J. Jenkins and family, was completely destroyed late to-night. Mr. Jenkins was sitting reading m the kitchen, and his wife was in the same room, when they discovered the front, of the house ablaze. They had only' time to seize their child from its bed, and make their escape. Mr. Jenkins was able to move his car from a sited, which however, was saved, but nothing was got out of tiie house. Awatoto is beyond the lire brigade boundary, and there is no water siipplv. The' direction of the wind arid the efforts of a bucket brigade pre\enteu the adjoining houses from catchiiig.. The house was insured for £7OO m the Phoenix Office and the furniture for £l5O, but the latter office is unknown.
