A 32-yvjar-old Polish beauty, Irene Weizbicka, shot herself when she was not elected as “Miss Poland” to lepresent her country at the World Beauty Contest at Bio de Janeiro. 'lbis incident is an indication of the storm which occurred throughout Poland where tiie contest was organised with tremendous publicity and tbe candidates paraded for hours before a vast audience before the decision was given. When the Jury announced that the winner was an actress, Sophia Batraka, there was a cry of anguish in the erowded hall, and Miss Weizbicka dashed out weeping. She was found dead in a dressing room.
